Things You Should Know

Questions we get all the time - great minds think alike

Why Implantium™?

Because your ears deserve better than cheap metals and butterfly backs.

Implantium™ is Smoothie London’s standard for jewellery that works as hard as you do:

  • Implant-grade titanium: the same quality trusted for medical implants, meaning it’s 100% hypoallergenic and safe for sensitive ears.
  • Waterproof & tarnish-proof: wear it in the shower, at the gym, or on holiday without a second thought.
  • No-poke comfort: our flatback design means you can sleep, train, and live in them 24/7 without irritation.

Where most brands settle for stainless steel or mystery alloys, we raised the bar and created Implantium™: a new benchmark for jewellery that’s stylish, safe, and designed for everyday life.

What’s the difference between a flatback and a regular stud earring?

Flatbacks are designed for maximum comfort and security—they sit flush against your skin, unlike traditional butterfly backs that can poke or irritate your ears. They’re especially great for cartilage piercings and for people who sleep in their earrings.

Are your titanium flatbacks safe for sensitive ears?

Yes! Our earrings are made from implant-grade titanium, which is completely hypoallergenic, nickel-free, and biocompatible—perfect for even the most sensitive skin.

Are these earrings suitable for healing piercings?

Yes these earrings are made from implant-grade titanium, a biocompatible material widely used by professional piercers for healing piercings because it minimises irritation caused by jewellery materials.

However, healing depends on more than just jewellery. Correct post length and fit are essential - posts often need to be downsized once initial swelling has gone down. Aftercare, avoiding pressure (such as sleeping on the piercing), and limiting movement also play a key role. Changing jewellery too early or putting pressure on a healing piercing can cause irritation, even with the correct material.

Do they come as a pair?

No, our flatback studs are sold individually as they're designed to mix and match in various lobe and helix positions. Please purchase 2 for a matching pair.

How do I insert and remove my titanium flatback earrings?

Our flatbacks come in internally threaded styles. For internally threaded earrings, twist the front piece onto the post. To remove, gently unscrew the front piece.

Can I wear these earrings in the shower or while swimming?

Absolutely! Titanium is waterproof, sweatproof, and tarnish-resistant, so you can wear your earrings 24/7 without worry.

Will my earrings change color over time?

Nope! Unlike cheap metals that fade, rust, or turn your skin green, implant-grade titanium stays looking brand new—no discoloration, no tarnishing, just long-lasting shine.

Healing & Aftercare Disclaimer

Our titanium jewellery is made from implant-grade, biocompatible material commonly used by professional piercers for healing piercings. It is designed to support the body’s natural healing process by minimising irritation caused by jewellery materials.

However, healing outcomes vary from person to person. Jewellery alone cannot override factors such as aftercare, post length and fit, pressure from sleeping, frequent movement, or changing jewellery too early. Temporary soreness or irritation can occur after a jewellery change, especially in piercings that are still healing.

If pain, swelling, or bleeding persists, we always recommend visiting a reputable professional piercer for personalised advice and fit checks.
