A lot of earrings on the market are gold-plated - but it’s what’s underneath that counts.

Whether it’s sterling silver, titanium, or stainless steel, we’re proud to be fully transparent about the metals we use. No mystery bases, no hidden copper or brass. Just high quality materials that are chosen for comfort, durability, and long-term wear - especially in sensitive piercings.

Some of our pieces are plated, and where the plating sits matters more than whether it is there at all. On our silver Implantium flatbacks, the post is raw implant-grade titanium and only the head is plated, in platinum. That means the part actually sitting in your piercing is bare titanium. On our gold flatbacks, the post and the head are both gold-plated. Posts are sold separately, so if you would rather nothing plated goes through the piercing, you can buy a raw titanium post and screw a plated head onto it.

We hold mill certificates for our titanium, which are the documents from the mill that supplied it. If you would like to see the certificate for something you own, email us at support@smoothielondon.com and we will send it over.
